[IXI! Digest] Convention of Cosplay - Web Edition 04

Alright so today's interviewee is also from the great province of New Brunswick. He is a cool family man, and will stand up to injustice in the cosplay community. He goes by the name of Kevin, and is Moncton's very own Wolverine.

D - How long have you been cosplaying and what inspired you to start?

K - I've been cosplaying since 2010. And I actually started it by fluke! I didn't really know this existed till then. Sure I had heard about San Diego Comic Con and other very large Con's, but I really wasn't sure what cosplaying was, I don't think I had heard about it. My friend, Scott Steven Bell, and I were sitting in a movie theatre, waiting for the premier of 2009's Star Trek reboot when a few costume'd people came in with their Starfleet Uniforms on, and had signs promoting HAL-CON for 2010. I turned to my buddy and stated that we should go, I'd be Wolverine, and he could be Sabretooth. He agreed, and that's how it began.

D - What cosplays have you done since you started cosplaying?

K - I've really been limited to Wolverine mostly. However, I have done teen wolf, and Alan from the Hangover for a smaller Con last summer. As far as Wolverine goes, I've done X-1 leather Jacket, Origins-Bone Claw, X force, Astonishing X-men Wolverine, and this year I've done the brown and gold suit.

D - What would you say was your favourite cosplay you've done?

K - It has to be Wolverine! I've actually purchased a few cowls from SFX prop maker Reevz FX, as well as Malmay industries. Sometimes I use my face, but sometimes I use the cowls.

D - What was the hardest?

K - Honestly, I think the Wolverine has been my hardest; I started an exercise regime in order to slim down to be able to barely pull off wearing spandex. (Spandex is NOT very forgiving) so I do my best to trim up. It's not easy, and I'm my own worst critic. I'll never be Mr. Olympia or anything like that, but dieting and training definitely takes up a lot of my free time, which can be hard to come by when you're a husband, father of two, and a business owner among other things. The easiest, by far, was Alan from the hangover... Just let myself get out of shape for a few months, grew out my beard and hair... It was funny because we always travel the same con circuits, and everyone knows me as Wolverine, so friends that I've met at Con's kept walking past me not saying Hello.

D - Have you gotten any awards for your cosplays and what was the competition or experience like?

K - I'm not big into costume contests, or competitions, I rather do it for fun, but our second year we entered a costume contest as Sabretooth and Wolverine. We actually won first prize. A few people were rather pissed off because we hadn't actually made our costumes... (We were wearing street gear for the most part) but won in the performance category or something like that. It was funny that people could get so bent out of shape over something so trivial, there was no prize for the contest, mostly just bragging rights. So for the most part, winning was neat, but if I ever enter another costume contest, I'll make good and sure I've got a really good costume.

D - There's been a lot of negative views on what Cosplaying is. What does Cosplay mean to you?

K - Cosplay to me, is basically dressing up in a character that you feel passionate about, or like, and it makes you feel good. Makes people smile, and you have fun doing it. To me, it doesn't matter what your body type is. If you love Superman, or Wonder Woman, and you want to dress up like them, even if you're 5'4" or 6'8" tall, doesn't matter what body weight you're at. By all means, PLEASE, bring it on, come one, come all! Have fun! Cons for the most part, only come once a year in our neck of the woods!! I hate seeing people made fun of, whether they have a store bought costume, or something they made themselves. Cosplaying is about having a good time, and enjoying yourself. Acceptance amongst your peers is very important! There was a quote I read once, and it stuck with me, and I live by it. "WHO ARE YOU TO TELL ME MY MAKE BELIEVE ISN'T REAL ENOUGH?" Makes sense, eh!? Never make fun of someone else's costume!

D - I see you also have kids what do they think of you cosplaying and have they caught the cosplay fever?

K - Yeah, I've got two great kids. They think it's pretty cool, but haven't gotten the urge to do it themselves. I was really hoping my older daughter would want to dress up in 2014 for our Upcoming East Coast Comic Expo http://www.eastcoastcomicexpo.com/ in Moncton. I would have been BIGDADDY to her HITGIRL. However, it doesn't look like she's ready for the attention that it garners at a Con. It would have been really neat to do also. Maybe someday. I think my son would be more into it, but the attention span and love of the Con, to be able to stand up and walk around all week end long, isn't something he's developed yet. He's only 10, so maybe when he reaches his mid-teens.

D - Finally if people wanted to know more information about your work where would they go to get it?

K - They can find me on FB at https://www.facebook.com/kevin.s.pierre.1
And we have just recently started a little fan page of mostly Maritime based cosplayers, and by no means is this "MY FAN PAGE" it's for everyone who likes Marvel or DC Comics to share a picture of their cosplay. It's a fan site, run by fans, for fans, that's our game plan. That can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Maritime-X-Men/671144962918870

[IXI! Digest]
Convention of Cosplay - Web Edition 03

Today's interviewee is a powerhouse in the cosplay community. I first heard great things about her when a friend of mine liked a campaign she is doing. She's from Washington, DC but people everywhere will soon know the name Lara Lunardi.

Dani- First off, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with me. How long have you been cosplaying, and what inspired you to start?

Lara- I have been cosplaying since 2008, but I started making my own costumes in 2010, with a lot of help from my mom. My inspiration came from the first con that I went, back in 2007, in Brazil. I saw a lot of people dressing up as my favorite characters and I knew that I wanted to be part of that. Now, I still cosplay because I am really into costume design and I love trying new fabrics and such.

D- Cosplaying is pretty big in North America but people are still reluctant to do it. What would you say are some of the things that prevent people from cosplaying even if they want to?

L- Cosplay is becoming something normal. The community grew a lot in the past 10 years and the internet helps to spread "our word". I think that if you feel like cosplaying, if you are willing to spend some money and really like a character, you should totally do it! I know that some people think that their bodies might not be like the character's, but honestly, I don't know a single person with the right proportions. There is no such thing of being ashamed of being who you are. :)

D- There's been a lot of negative views on what Cosplaying is. What does Cosplay mean to you?

L- Some people say that Cosplay is "devilish" and meant for children. I disagree with that. First, because cosplay has nothing to do with religion, in ANY way. Second, because we, Cosplayers, spend so much time and we put so much effort in our costumes/performing that it's kinda sad that some people would say that we are childish or even insane. As I always say, we are not crazy, we just have beautiful creative minds. DEAL WITH IT.

D- You have a campaign you're doing to help the cosplaying community, could you tell us more about it and what made you want to start it?

L- About my campaign: Honestly, I was not expecting it to get so viral and big. I just wanted people to respect each other more, so I started making the cosplay banners with phrases that would be catchy. I also tell the story of cosplayers that once suffered with bullying or were harassed/disrespected in any way.

D- Some notable cosplays you've done are: Harley Quinn, Lara Croft, Emma Frost, Domino, Samus Aran, Zelda, Catwoman, Supergirl, and Hatsune Miku. What other cosplays have you done since you started cosplaying?

L- I made so many costumes... I can't even count. My first one was Sakura Haruno, from Naruto. My aunt made it and I really loved it (even if it was a bit inaccurate and my wig was crappy as hell). I also created my own version of Captain America, my own Joker (not worn yet). I love adding my own details to the costumes I make.

D- As a cosplayer you probably have a favourite and one that was the most challenging so if you had to pick a favourite and categorise one as being challenging to do which ones would it be?

L- Of course I do have a favorite costume, haha. I have many. My costumes are like my babies. I love all of them, but my favorite costumes are my Samus ones. I really love the character, since I was a child. The most challenging costume to make was Alexstrasza, because it was my first full armor costume. I used Worbla to make the armor pieces, so it was all about molding, painting and etc. I loved every minute of it!

D- There are many different ways to go about putting together a cosplay outfit so how do you create your cosplays?

L- I usually make my costumes from scratch. I am not a cosplay nazi, though. If I find an item that is already made and that will help me to save time and money, I will buy it and customize it. Sometimes, I can use my own clothes to complement a costume (I have a pretty weird wardrobe).

D- Have you gotten any awards for your cosplays and what was the competition or experience like?

L- I used to be on cosplay circuits when I started, but to me, it is not that much fun, so I don't do it anymore. I am more of a performer (I sing and act professionally as well), so I am not into competitions. I am secure that my work is good, and yes, I won some awards on costume crafting and performing.

D- So as a follow up to the previous question do you do general performing such as small live action stuff at conventions or do you have a specific type that you do?

L- I enjoy singing and acting, I was the crooner of a Video Game Music orchestra for about a year. We performed in a lot of cool places/cons.

D- If people wanted to know more information about your work where would they go to get it?

L- Uhhhh.... Google! (Just kidding). I recently got my own website (that is pretty sweet), www.laralunardi.com and I also got a page on facebook: facebook.com/cosplaylala. I do use DeviantART, but not as much as I'd like to. My DA is cosplaylala.deviantart.com

[IXI! Digest]
Convention of Cosplay - Web Edition 02

Hi so today I'm interviewing Phil also known as SaintJohn Iron-Bat from Saint John New Brunswick one of four great provinces located in Canada's East Coast.

Dani- First off how long have you been cosplaying and what inspired you to start?

SaintJohn Iron-Bat- I guess the spark ignited in 2008, but my first Cosplay was in 2010 at Hal-Con. I made the Initial Flight Test suit that Stark wore in his garage to prove he could fly. Before this I was a Medieval reproduction Armoursmith, 2008 marked the departure from that towards the Iron Man Project

D- Nice so you decided to try something new and just go for it. What would you say are some of the things that prevent people from cosplaying even if they want to?

S- Yes and no... I became injured after years under the impact shock of the hammer... and when I saw the "Red & Gold" I realized that this would be another materials medium and that I could carry on with armoursmithing... just in a modified fashion. As far as prevention goes, I guess shyness, nervousness about acceptance, especially when dressed up... and of course cash flow.

D- You mentioned acceptance as one and I'm sure you've noticed that lately there is a bit of negativity to what cosplaying is so what does cosplay mean to you?

S- To be absolutely honest, it confuses the hell out of me. I do it with my whole family as what you might almost call a celebration of the North American mythology (I heard Stan Lee call super heroes that once). I treat everyone with respect and try to have kind words for everyone at all levels of costuming. We all started somewhere, right?

D- So speaking of family I noticed you have two boys so what do they think of dressing up and going to Conventions?

S- At first I was concerned that they would be shy and shrink away from the crowds... but that proved unfounded when I realized that they were natural born actors. My oldest son does an absolutely unnerving Ledger-Joker. I also know that they really appreciate having the custom high end suits fabricated for them, as they like to help out in the shop during the planning and construction phases. Even though the Con scene is wonderful, my main focus has become Children's Health Charities such as the IWK and local Hospital visits. Those are the main focus right now, the rest is a here and there sort of thing.

D- So aside from Iron Man and Batman have you cosplayed anyone else? And how do you go about creating your costumes?

S- No, the Iron Man was a 30 month adventure, and sports plus a lot of microprocessor powered SFX. The Dark Knight was put together as an "in-between" suit until the Iron man could be launched. Which incidentally happened on the premiere of Iron Man 3. I have one more for myself that is in the planning phase, but its top secret.

D- Wow so I take it that was your most challenging to do but which one would you say is your favourite?

S- The Iron Man I think... I get the most crazed attention from that, even when the visor goes up. People actually go out of their way to see it. For instance, I was recently invited to do a presentation on microprocessors and programming at my local college. I brought in the suit and stretched their minds to the point where they requested I do a second presentation which was once again packed.

D- Have you gotten any awards for it and if so what was the competition or experience like for you?

S- I actually haven't done a competition since 2010 (won best group). The competition itself was somewhat fun, as I love the energy of the audience when I take the stage. However, I think I'd much rather be simply mingling and having fun with all of my Con buddies. That way there is no competition stress, and let’s be honest here… EVERYONE gets it; otherwise they wouldn’t go through the extraordinary pains of making such elaborate costumes. They’d all be wearing Wal-Mart specials.  At this point, I have been asked to attend events as a guest... So I help with costume judging, panels and photo shoots.

D- But yet you've been asked to speak twice at your local college to a packed room. I'd say that's better than getting an award.

S- The award in 2010 was kind of cool, but I started to get a weird feeling about the nature of it all after that. Watching a certain show on the SyFy channel pretty much killed any desire I once had to do it again.

D- I don't blame you for that the show takes things to the ridiculous extreme*

D- So finally if people wanted to learn more about your work where could they go to get it?

S- I have a small web store and am slowly growing the items I have been making... a lot of it is prototypes and things not currently readily available. http://pr0ps.storenvy.com/ One thing I'd like to mention is that I don't build commissioned props for financial gain, I do it to finance the costumes for my family, as I don't think it is right for me to use family money to fuel such a potentially expensive hobby.

D- Awesome well that is a wrap on the interview. Thank you so much for taking time to chat about your work and I look forward to what the future has in store for SaintJohn Iron-Bat

S- Thank you, Dani, it was my pleasure.

*Heroes of Cosplay is the show we we're discussing about.

[IXI Digest]
First Impressions of Summer 2013 Anime Season

Hello, and welcome again to my usual segment as I talk about the new Summer 2013 anime season.  Now, to start, I’m already not terribly impressed with this season at the moment.  Nothing has really grabbed me so far, and the only shows I really look forward to every week are new seasons of things I already like, like Symphogear G, High School DxD New, Genshiken Nidaime, and The World God Only Knows – Goddesses (None of which I’m going to talk about here because of my usual rule of not talking about second seasons, but god there are a lot of second seasons this summer).  After a couple of really strong seasons, this one just feels a bit lacklustre.  So, without further ado, let’s get into the shows.

Servant x Service

From the same creator as Working, comes a new series about a group of Civil Servants working at a government office.  The series takes a slice of life/comedy look at the people who work there and the people who come in.  That’s really about all there is to say to describe the series.  It’s a simple concept, and the jokes and sketches remind me a lot of Working in how they’re executed.  Now, I enjoyed Working, so that’s a good thing in my opinion.  Characters are pretty simple though, with such memorable stereotypes as the hard-working one, the pushover manager, and the overly talented yet incredibly lazy one.  Anyways, it seems like it may be an enjoyable way to kill half an hour, so give it a look if you’re just looking for a laugh, and especially if you enjoyed Working.

Danganronpa the Animation

A collection of promising youth are gathered together at a prestigious high school, only to find that they have been trapped inside and made to play a sick survival game by the psychotic principal.  The only way to get out is to murder one of their classmates and get away with it.  If they succeed, they will be let free, and the rest of the class will be disposed of, if they fail to cover their tracks, they will be the one to die.  This show comes off like a weird cross between Battle Royale and a Shin Megami Tensei game.  It gets dark, really fast, despite the plethora of cartoony imagery that usually fills the screen.  Classmates start dropping like flies, and the mystery begins almost immediately.  The only thing, I find, that throws me off a bit while watching is the fact that the principal of the school is some sort of teddy bear, stuffed with explosives.  He may very well be the most messed up thing in this show.  If you like mystery, and psychological thriller, this anime is right up your alley.

Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou

This is a series about a man who liked books so much that after being shot during an armed robbery, he refused to die until having read the final book of his favourite series.  Reincarnated as a dog, he finds himself adopted by his favourite author, also the person he had been protecting, unknowingly, when he was shot.  She is capable of hearing his thoughts, and so his new life begins.  This show is… interesting, to say the least.  The author’s personality seems to flop back and forth between caring and psychotic on a dime, and the dog is just plain uninterested in anything going on around him.  There does not really seem to be much of a plot either aside from him trying to convince her to get writing the final book in that series he likes as she comes up with every single excuse to do, literally, anything else.  It’s a weird show, but it does have its legitimately entertaining moments.  So, give it a try if you’re at all inclined, but otherwise this probably shouldn’t be very high on the list of things to watch.

Love Lab

A series about the two most popular girls in an all girls school, working together on the Student Council.  However, they aren’t just doing Council work in that office, they are also studying love, and ways to get a boyfriend.  Yeah, the premise is just that strange.  The bulk of the show is them messing around in the Student Council office, talking about all sorts of methods to attract a boy’s attention, and what to do once you have it.  This is mostly innocent stuff, but occasionally verging on the delusional and cliché.  However, despite that as the premise, the series is a legitimately endearing story about friendship and having people you can talk to about anything.  An oddly good series to sit and watch despite the idea behind it.  If you enjoy sappy drama and friendship stuff, this is the series for you this season, so give it a shot.

Gin no Saji

Otherwise known as Silver Spoon, this series is about a high school for people who want to work on or run a farm.  It follows the main character, who entered this school for… well, I’m not entirely sure why he entered that school.  He’s not from a farming family, and he came from an upper class middle school in the city.  Even he doesn’t seem to know why he’s there aside from the fact that he wanted to get away from home.  Anyways, the series follows his daily routine at this farm school, as he learns all about where his food comes from.  At first I was kind of weirded out by this series, but it grew on me after the first episode.  A strong story about the rewards of hard work, and not being bound by your first impressions of things, it is actually quite enjoyable to watch.  It helps that all the characters are very likable.  If you like stories about developing character and learning as you go, this is the show for you, and I suggest you pick it up.

Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C3-bu

An anime about a group of airsoft enthusiasts who attend a prestigious all girls high school.  It follows Yura, the newest member of the club, as she learns all about the sport, and grows to love it while surrounded by the odd characters in the club.  The members of the club get played off as a bunch of weirdos in the show, obsessed with combat, and their guns.  However, the series is fairly endearing, presenting itself as a story about changing oneself and striving to become a better person.  The action scenes are also very well animated, and give off a sort of Hollywood action movie vibe.  All in all, it seems like a pretty solid show, so give it a look if you like action, and girls with guns.

Blood Lad

The story of an otaku vampire that lives in the demon world, who also happens to be the boss of his own territory.  He and his gang are embroiled in a huge turf war spanning the entire demon world, when one day a human girl stumbles into their territory.  The vampire is all excited to meet someone from the country that makes all his favourite things, but after an unfortunate accident, she dies and becomes a ghost.  The vampire, upset by this, promises that he will find a way to resurrect her in between shopping trips to the human world and fights over his territory.  All in all, this show is not at all what I was expecting when I read about it.  There was a bit of cool action at the beginning, but the whole thing is more or less just played up for comedy.  It’s not necessarily bad, but it hasn’t especially managed to wow me yet either.  Another decent time-waster anime this season, so give it a look if you’re at all inclined.

Makai Ouji – Devils and Realist

The story of a rich, brilliant boy named William, attending a prestigious boarding school for the high class.  When his uncle accidentally ruins the family’s fortune, William discovers that he is the descendant of Solomon, and the human chosen to choose the interim ruler of hell, because apparently Lucifer is going to take a century long nap.  Demons surround him and attempt to bribe him into choosing them, and so his life is turned upside down.  There’s nothing really wrong with the show itself, or its premise for that matter, I just have one problem with it.  William is such an unlikable character that it kind of ruins the whole thing for me.  Despite being in a position of power at the school, he does nothing but whine about everything going on around him.  Demons are fighting each other right in front of his face, but he whines about how it is scientifically impossible for demons to exist.  I want to reach through the screen and smack the guy, repeatedly.  Also, for some reason, his theme music seems to be “London Bridge is Falling Down”.  Anyways, aside from him, the show seems decent, so don’t avoid it just because of my opinion.  Give it a watch if you like science vs. magic type anime, because this definitely delivers on that.

Gifuu Doudou!!  Kanetsugu to Keiji

A series following the exploits of Sengoku era samurai Naoe Kanetsugu and Maeda Keiji.  That’s about it for the premise, two famous historical figures and their terribly, terribly exaggerated adventures.  These two are being shown as incredibly badass guys capable of just about anything.  Then again, I am totally okay with this, because the entire show is the two of them drinking and talking about past exploits.  Of course it’s going to be exaggerated as hell, that’s the point.  It’s like, “And then I swung my guitar pick at the guy and a tiger made of energy came out and mauled him to death”.  It’s awesome, but obviously just a drunk guy talking himself up.  Anyways, the series has good action scenes, and it’s always fun to see what the two of them get up to.  If you like historical fiction, and especially anime about samurai, this is the one for you this season.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi

With one final message to humanity, God left the world for good, calling the entire thing a failure.  Without him, heaven and hell are both full up, no more children are born, and the dead walk the earth.  At first, there’s no noticeable difference between the living and the dead, but eventually they devolve into creatures of instinct.  The only way to put someone to rest, is for them to be buried by a special type of person called a Gravekeeper, who have a God-given ability to do so.  Basically, this is a zombie apocalypse series, without ever once actually using the word ‘zombie’.  It follows a little girl who also happens to be a Gravekeeper, who ends up tagging along on a journey with the man who killed everyone she had ever known and loved.  The plotline seems fairly interesting, and I’m interested to see where this goes from here.  If you like mystery and zombie stories, this is the series for you, and quite possibly one of the better written of the season.

Free!

Now, this one got a lot of attention.  From Kyoto Animation, creators of Haruhi, Lucky Star, and K-On, as well as the guys who more or less defined the Moe art style, comes a show about a bunch of male swimmers.  A number of boys who used to swim competitively in elementary school form a swimming club in high school, and start to get back into things.  There really isn’t much plot here aside from swimming competitions between rivals.  What really gets me about this show, is it really feels no different from any other series this studio has ever done.  It’s like K-On, except instead of a band, they swim.  It’s the same thing, the same character types, the same directing, and the same animation, except they’re all guys.  They took the very concept of a moe series and flipped it over on its head and targeted it for a female audience.  Personally, I find this absolutely hilarious.  I may not be part of the intended demographic, but I am definitely enjoying to series myself.  Then again, I enjoyed Sekaiichi Hatsukoi.  If you’re into such things, give it a shot, but if you’re not comfortable with heavily eroticized male swimmers, you should probably stay clear.

Gatchaman Crowds

Once again on the ‘not at all what I was expecting’ bandwagon, comes Gatchaman Crowds.  The story of a girl who one day, suddenly becomes a Gatchaman and is told she is now part of a team that fights aliens without being seen by the general public.  I’m not actually sure whether or not this is supposed to be a sequel to the original Gatchaman series, but if it is, then it definitely took an unexpected turn.  A high school setting, a main character who’s a little… not quite all there, and enemies that may or may not actually be a threat.  Not sure where this show is going with this, but with the staff from Tiger & Bunny, and Karas on board, the combat animations sure do look nice if a little over-CG’d for my tastes.  All I can say is I hope that member of their team named Jo, who hasn’t fought at all yet, turns out to be Joe the Condor from the original series.  Anyways, if you like Men in Black and K-On (Watch the series if you’re confused about what those two have to do with each other), then this may be up your alley.

Watamote

A slice of life series about an incredibly unpopular, somewhat delusional high school girl who desperately needs to get more sleep.  That’s really all that can be said about this show’s premise.  She’s unpopular, but wants to be a bit more social and popular with people, but goes about it in all the wrong ways, and all the while refusing to admit that there’s anything wrong with her.  It’s a bit hard to watch, but oddly enough it seems to have gained some level of popularity this season.  We may be seeing a lot of memes come out of this series.  Anyways, if you like slice of life shows, this one may be for you, so give it a look.

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation

Based on the series of video games, this anime is an anthropomorphized version of the console wars (Feel like I’ve said that a few times lately).  This time though, instead of Nintendo vs. Sega, there are four countries representing PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and what I can only assume is supposed to be PC.  Also, instead of depicting an actual war, the show starts with a peace treaty and it turns into a magical girl sort of series from there.  The series seems pretty light on plot at first, but there does seem to be something going on in the background, so I can’t say anything solid just yet.  Characters are very stereotypical, nothing terribly original, and the only real action seems kind of bland with some less than interesting costume designs.  This one seems to be kind of a write-off this season, so I wouldn’t pay it much mind.  If you like video game and RPG jokes all over the place and not much beyond that, give it a try, but otherwise I wouldn’t really recommend it.

Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya

And speaking of magical girl anime I’m not quite sure what to make of, yet another series based on the Fate/Stay Night franchise, this time featuring Illya as a magical girl.  Basically, Tohsaka Rin is given magical girl powers and sent to Japan to deal with some sort of monsters, but while there her wand decides it’s tired of her and flies off to find someone else.  Finally choosing Illya and forcing her into a contract with it, Illya finds herself forced into a fight she wants nothing to do with.  This comes off as more of a parody of the magical girl genre, and less of a serious plot line.  The characters are exaggerated versions of the familiar Fate characters, so that’s a draw for some people.  If you like the Fate series, and enjoy those characters, this may be something to look into, but if you’ve never seen Fate/Stay Night, you will not get any of the jokes.

Anyways, that’s it for me.  I may pick up a few more shows over the course of the season, but that’s still up in the air.  Anyways, see you guys again in October when I post my first impressions of the Fall season.

North, and a little to the left

They're not all up, but I figured I'd post our Anime North 2013 videos so far. Please keep in mind that our AN13 videos are currently on a backup channel due to some copyright confusion on our main channel; we currently can't upload videos longer than 15 minutes, which suits our normal release schedule well enough, but as you can imagine this causes issues for our convention videos. We appreciate your patience, and we don't need you to subscribe to the backup channel, just stay tuned to our website, FAcebook, and Twitter streams to see the rest of the videos go up.

Anyways, parts 5 and 6 are now up to make up for the lack of releases last Friday and Tuesday. Part 7 tomorrow, as well as our first Anime North videos, hopefully.

Back from North 2013

Alright, so we're all back and (mostly) recovered from Anime North, so here's how things are going down, for everyone hungry to see our photos and footage.

As it stands, roughly half of our photos are up on the Facebook album. The other half will be uploaded late today, and then I start tagging people I know in the photos. Once that's done, I'm going to start working on the videos. Raven has his own batch of panel videos to edit and I have a couple of panels and the two big shows - the Top Secret Game Show (which I will be editing first due to high demand) and the 404s 18+ Last Pants Standing show, which our good friend Dany apparently gave IXI! exclusive filming rights (though I can't say for sure nobody else had a camera going behind me, lol).

So there's the schedule for the next week or so. Stay tuned to the website, the Facebook group, and the YouTube channel to see everything go up.

Also, our YouTube channel recently passed 500 subscribers! Awesome!

[IXI Digest]
First Impressions of the Spring 2013 Anime Season

Hello, and welcome again to a brand new season of anime. The Spring season has come, and with it come what is usually the most highly anticipated content of the year! Except not so much this year. Seriously, mostly sequels, which I don’t usually talk about, and absolutely everything ended last season. Even Fairy Tail. That’s like saying that Bleach came to a… Oh, right. Anyways, as I fill the blanks in my watching schedule with some older material, I bring you my usual first impressions of the new Spring 2013 anime season. Let’s get started.
